■Candle Night @ Omotesando - Eco Avenue
Candle night, presented by environmental NGO, is an event geared toward environmental-friendly action, energy conservation, and rethinking the modern way of life by enjoying a short amount of time in candlelight and reflecting on how we as human beings should spend our time on this planet. Many large complexes will be turning their lights down or off as candle night events are held all over Japan. The Lighting Detective have been involved with this event since 2003, but the list of participating areas around the country keeps growing each year.

The theme for the Candle Night @ Omotesando ? Eco Avenue 2008 Summer Solstice is “Dialogue. Dialogue with the shadows. Dialogue with the light.” In the hurriedness of everyday, dialogue is forgotten. The Omotesando event is trying to help us rediscover this basic interaction through candle installations, candle network cafe, the children’s candle parade, original design lanterns, and other candle usages. This one-night event will start with the children’s parade and include candle installations along Omotesando, candle cafes in the vicinity, and meandering lantern light along Omotesando.

In cooperation with this event, Omotesando Hills will also be turning off it 250m long LED “Bright Up Wall” along with other boutiques and shops that will be turning off some facade lighting. This is a chance for the candle to really stand out along a dimmed Omotesando. Come and join us for this exciting event.
